How do I scrape the texture off of my ceiling?

Answered By Cara Gimbal, Editor

If the texture off your ceiling is not too heavy, you will only need to skim over it. All you have to do is to use an 8-inch tapping knife and a joint compound and go over scrapping the texture of ceiling. You will need to do it two times to completely cover the sand texture. Position the knife at a 45-degree angle, and you may now scrape it off.

Start with small cross section areas at a time, around two to three square feet, then you may move to the next section. Let it dry and you can now apply the second coat. After the coat is now dry, you can now smooth it with sandpaper for a nice ceiling texture.
